Wenge has a Janka hardness rating of 1,320 lbf, placing it among the hardest woods available. This exceptional hardness translates to superior durability and resistance to wear, making it ideal for high-traffic applications like flooring and heavy-duty furniture. However, its hardness also means it requires careful handling during machining to avoid tool wear and tear.
Wenge features a distinctive dark brown to nearly black color with subtle greenish or grayish undertones that deepen to a rich, dark brown as it ages.
